Cirencester, the ‘Capital of the Cotswolds’ is a vibrant market town, founded as Coriniam by the Romans, it was once the second largest Roman town in Britain after London. Once a prosperous wool town, Cirencester’s charming streets are full of honey-coloured stone buildings, rich in architectural heritage.
Whilst in Cirencester you can visit the museum, take a short walk to the Roman ampitheatre and explore its hidden courtyards featuring indepedent boutiques, antiques, craft shops and galleries. Look out for the Swan Yard, the Old Post Office, The Woolmarket and the Stable Yard for a traditional shopping experience. There is plenty of choice when it comes to a refreshment break, with independent cafes, tearooms and bakeries for coffees, light meals or delicious afternoon teas.
