On this day trip you will be able to explore the legendary steamship Great Britain the crowning glory in Bristol’s harbourside. The museum, ship and dockyard tells the full story of Brunel’s feat of engineering which transformed travel, migration and culture forever.
You can experience the sights, smells and sounds of Victorian life at sea. It’s time to step aboard: scrub the deck, dress up in your finery for a stroll along the Promenade, scale the rigging (if you’re brave enough!) and climb into a steerage bunk. Step aboard the museum, and meet the people who built the ship, follow the journeys of migrants sailing to new lives in Australia, and explore voyages to Crimea and India. Uncover stories from decades of research and the Brunel’s Institute’s archive of original drawings, letters and artefacts.
After your visit there will be time to explore Bristol’s harbourside and vibrant city centre and historic buildings including Bristol Cathedral and the Lord Mayor’s Chapel.
