The Anderton Boat Lift is one of the Seven Wonders of the Waterways and is affectionately known as the Cathedral of the Canals.  This is one of only two working boat lifts in the UK designed by Edwin Clark to transfer boats between the River Weaver and the Trent and Mersey Canal across a height of 50 feet.

This fascinating day trip includes a 60 minute boat ride.  The lift itself is undergoing some essential maintenance and is currently not operating.  The boat trip starts at the bottom of the lift looking up at the glorious scheduled ancient monument from a unique perspective and continues along the River Weaver to Northwich where you will take in the 2 historic swing bridges (the first 2 electrically operated bridges in Britain).  The trip will be guided by a knowledgeable and engaging boat crew and they will return you to the Anderton to talk about the future of this fascinating attraction before enjoying a cream tea of scones, and time to explore the Visitor Centre, coffee shop and waterside.
