ROUTE D
Our first visit of the day is to Maidenhead which is part of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. The modern town centre has a range of around 300 shops and restaurants as well as the Maidenhead Heritage Centre. A short walk from the town centre takes you to the riverside, with its 18th Century road bridge and Brunel’s famous ‘Sounding Arch’ featured in Turner’s painting of ‘Rain, Steam and Speed’. A walk along the river here offers amazing views of the Thames.
In contrast to Maidenhead we then transfer to the vibrant Georgian town of Marlow which is one of the loveliest locations along the Thames, set amongst the rich meadows of the river valley. The town is made up of historic streets and listed buildings and an abundance of independent shops and boutiques. Marlow has always been known as a fashionable riverside resort and famous past residents include Jerome K. Jerome, T.S. Elliot and Mary Shelley.
