Christmas Markets have become a popular destination for coach travellers, who want to get their festive season off to a merry start by soaking up the atmosphere. As the popularity of the Christmas Market in the big cities grows so does the traffic and demand for parking spaces so more and more people are now opting to visit on a coach trip. The main advantage of travelling on an organised coach trip takes away all the the stress of driving longer distances as you can relax whilst on board, you don’t have to worry about parking, you often get dropped off right in the centre of the festivities and of course you can enjoy a drop of mulled wine with your mince pie without having to worry about driving home.
Bath, Manchester, Birmingham and Chester all have wonderful Christmas Markets with a fantastic atmosphere, they are busy and bustling and attract people in their thousands. But what about some of the less well known markets that happen around the country? Many of them offering something a little bit different than the bigger markets and are often held in stunning destinations.
A great example of this kind of market is The Piece Hall in Halifax, West Yorkshire.
The Piece Hall in Halifax is a stunning heritage Grade I listed building and the world’s only remaining cloth building, it opened orginally in 1779 as a trade market for local clothiers to trade ‘pieces’ lengths of hand woven cloth. Today the historic colonnades are home to independent shops and boutiques and eateries and the huge courtyard hosts events and concerts throughout the year. During the festive season, the Christmas Market is a major highlight where stalls fill the courtyard with a curated selection of Yorkshire-focused goods, produce and gifts including artisan spirits, baked goods, homeware, jewellery and bath and body products. The Piece Hall is a treasure trove of high quality independent shops, the Christmas market has a magical atmosphere and all of this is set in the foreground of a stunning back drop of beautiful hills overlooking the town. There is enough here to keep you browsing and soaking up the festive spirit without even needing to venture into the town and with the coach drop-off point only a very short walk away it is the perfect ‘new’ place to try for your Christmas Market experience this year.
So if you fancy a Yorkshire Christmas Market experience this year why not join an organised coach day trip and sample the friendliness and warm welcome you will receive in Halifax.
