A Change to Your Usual Christmas Market? Try Winchester

With Christmas Markets gaining more popularity throughout the UK, thousands of people flock to cities such as Bath, Manchester, York and Chester for a great day out soaking up the festive atmosphere.  These cities are a great visitor destination in their own right and they are always bustling and there is so much to do even without a Christmas Market, so during the festive period they become very busy with increased traffic and extra parking demands, it can become a bit of an ordeal for individual travellers reaching their destination in the first place.

This is why more and more people are opting to visit the Christmas Markets on an organised day trip with their local coach operator.  It removes the stress of driving, worrying about where to park and the cost of parking but it does mean you can indulge in a little mulled wine because you know that you can relax on the journey home.

There is also a growing appetite amongst coach travellers to try a different Christmas Market each year and whilst the popularity of markets such as Bath and York do not seem to wane, there are some other wonderful markets around the country set in historic towns and cities with beautiful surroundings to enjoy.

The well-loved destination of Winchester is one such alternative, with its stunning Cathedral, a city steeped in history, the former seat of King Alfred the Great and where Jane Austen lived in the years before she died.  This culturally rich city has a wealth of independent shops and eateries and magnificent architecture to enjoy making it a wonderful place to visit at any time of the year.

At Christmas time the historic grounds of Winchester Cathedral come alive with the sound of festive music and the aroma of spiced mulled wine and cinnamon.  The prettily lit wooden chalets are inspired by the German Christmas Markets that are now widely present in most UK Christmas Markets but Winchester has a reputation for hand-picking high quality exhibitors showcasing their products and gifts.  With the Cathedral as the back-drop to the festivities and everything else that Winchester has to offer, it really is a fantastic way to get into the festive spirit and enjoy a great day out.

Swift Valley Coach Travel will be visiting Winchester Cathedral Christmas Market on Wednesday 16 December with departures from Lutterworth, Leicester Fosse Park, Market Harborough, Hinckley, Narborough, Blaby, Broughton Astley and Rugby.
