Beth Chatto’s Plants & Gardens

Categories: ,

Beth Chatto OBE was an award-winning plants woman, author and lecturer and winner of 10 gold medals at Chelsea Flower Show in the 70s and 80s. She started her work at the Gardens in 1960. She took an overgrown wasteland of brambles, parched gravel and boggy ditches, transforming it using plants adapted by nature to thrive in different conditions: right plant, right place. An inspirational, informal garden has developed.

7.5 acres of garden, based on ecological planting include a gravel garden, water garden, reservoir garden, scree garden and a woodland garden all ready to burst into life during our late spring visit.  There will also be an opportunity to browse around the plant nursery and gift shop and to purchase some refreshments in the tearooms.
