This visit to Waddesdon Manor includes entrance to the house and gardens and the opportunity to view ‘Standing with Giants’ installation.
‘Standing with Giants’ is an emotional and dramatic large-scale installation commemorating those who gave their lives for freedom during the D-Day landings. Displayed in the grounds of Waddesdon visitors will be able to stop, think and reflect in the prescence of the powerful For Your Tomorrow installation, 1,476 life size sillouhettes, each representing a life lost under British command on D-Day as well as the wider conflict and has been updated for this year. New designs will be unveiled for the first time in the UK where personal detail and history is brought even more to the fore with figures showing Beach Masters, Dog Handlers, Royal Navy Officers, Tank Crew, Merchant Navy personnel and Royal Engineers.
Waddesdon Manor was built by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild between 1874 and 1885 to display his collection of arts and to entertain his friends. It is now open to the public welcoming thousands of visitors each year who come to appreciate the exceptional architecture, art collections and gardens. Waddesdon is currently undertaking some essential restoration and conservation work so it is looking a little different at the moment. However, there is still much to learn about, appreciate and enjoy in both the house and gardens with the added highlight of ‘Standing with Giants’.
